TENCH Empty TENCH

Post by marcus Mon Jan 14, 2008 4:59 am

Ok lets see who has got some bait tips for tench fishing, spring will be here soon and its my favourite time of year for targeting the little tinca's .
one of my best early spring methods is bedding down a pint or 2 of red squat and fishing over it with double red maggot, providing you have selected a suitable swim it can be devastating tactic, set up can be anything from a pole line and laying on 2 inches or swingtip and feeder but for me you cant beat a waggler set semi lift method and laying on about a foot, nothing compares to playing a spring tench on a rod and line.

so come on give us your secrets Very Happy i bet erics got one or two Very Happy

hemp is great for tench and a bed of hemp fished with caster over the top does well for me

or mashed bread with breadflake over the top Smile

I think you've got it about right tencher. I floatfish if I can - just because I enjoy it far more than sitting behind bobbins, and lift method is still as good as it ever was. I agree too that maggots are a superb tench bait - particularly early in the year when it's still a bit cold.
Had lots of big tench on lobworms too and my biggest fell to sweetcorn.
If you're fishing a feeder it pays to clip up every cast so that the bait always drops in the same spot. Raking a swim can really get them going too. Don't worry about the disturbance it causes, raking releases so much food from the lake bed that the tench will be on it before you put the rake away. That's a tactic for later in the season mind when the water's a bit warmer.

i always fish for tench on the cage feeder so that the water attacks the groundbait quickly on the deck and make a ground bait thats full of goodies what tench like like hemp, chopped worm, squatts, pinkies a few red maggot, corn and caster and then fish a cocktail bait on the hook maggot and worm, worm and caster ect... i always start with a 3foot hook length and work from there i start with casts every 10-15 mins to get some ground bait and goodies on the deck then the fish always come i've had good success with this method with my best catch being 37 tench and 12 crucion for a sitting of 8 hours Smile

my favourite way of targeting the little beautes is the drennan block end feeder rig, i like to put a few handfuls of hemp out first and then fish the maggot feeder with either fake caster or double red maggot on the hook.

that rig cuaght me my pb of 4lb 1oz
