If I was to do a session on the dam for carp and no carp are rolling where should I fish? Roadside, arches or the sunnies?

Needle/haystack, and if you ask some of the match regulars they will tell you that there are carp but not that many, maybe 10 years ago, not now. I'm certainly not doubting there are carp though, waters change, fish die and also fish are stolen. Carr mill isn't immune to fish theft

well the six that came off the week before last the aount st look familiar, and add onto that the amount rolling in front of me the last time i pike fished on there (few weeks) id say it is still the same as it ever was.
some of the match regulars dont even realise how big the bream go in there as they cant see beyond tip and feeder tactics

Maybe because that method is proven to catch fish, you can't go stalking fish in a match. I walked round last weeks match, pole, waggler and feeder were all being used, and the quality of anglers is high. Match anglers use the methods they think will get them the best bag of fish!

The bream in the dam do get to a good size. I pulled out a 7lb and a 5lb in one session last year and I was float fishing. Had lots of silver fish as well. I think you are spot on, most don't know the size of not only the bream but the roach and perch in the dam. I must admit tho the carp talk is new to me and I am intrigued.

true but in a match there are other factors to account for

next peg is taken as are the next however many are pegged so you are fishing not only for the fish but also against x amount of anglers
you cant pick where you want to fish you are restricted by the area selected for the draw and then further by the peg you draw
if you go out on a limb to do something out of the ordinary in a match you have to have some kahunas as when men either side are knocking 20 fish an hour out and your waiting to connect with one...

different types and styles of fishing, trying to compare them doesnt work i know most of the match lot on there would wipe the floor with me on a groundbait feeder /pole aproach on any given day or water
give them a lure rod or even a pin and avon rolling meat for chub and barbel id pick myself over most.
not that they or I can claim to be a better angler just more specialised in some areas.

another one that a lot dont see is what is a swim? to mal on peg 59 its an area of 70 yards in front of him and its about 8 yards wide, for me i can cover most of coniston from the margins to 200yards out in a day. car mill dam is a 'swim' to be covered in a couple of hours. Again no right or wrong ways to fish there just different approaches
