Town Canal on the fly rod..

Its pretty easy and gets your eye in for buzzer fishing for trout.. You have to be quicker hooking these.
takes are fast and light 2lbs line is needed anything bigger and they get line shy.
I uses a 7 foot leader with a dry new zealand style with two buzzers under at equal lengths of remaining leader.
Note once you have had a few change your buzzers once the shoal has been fooled they soon start to ignore your offerings to vary your flies.
On cold days get close to an angler who is ground baiting as that gets them going.
Also small mini lure fly pulled through the water will get perch...

Never fished the St Helens canal Grayling Hunter are you targetting the roach specifically? are chub present in the cut?

Any of the silvers..never had any chub out of this part of the canal but suspect the sanky brook end that leads to mersey will have a few in..

Hi Grayling Hunter my brother used to fly fish for the pike on the Rufford Canal many years back alas without any success. Have you tried for the toothy critters on the St Helens cut?

good report, never fly fished myself, ill have to have a go some time, looks hard though.
