Long-lake 12 hour session Empty Long-lake 12 hour session

Well as planned me and my dad got our things together and headed out for out regular tuesday 12 hours session. We decided to fish longlake again after not having much success last time we thought it was worth trying to wrinkle some out again as there are some lovely fish in the waters there. With an early rise of 5:15am we managed to get on the bank by 7:00 am and was set up and fishing by 7:30 am. the weather in the morning was pretty bleak. Misty conditions with a touch of fog on the water. It was around 6 degrees around this time, but it managed to reach around 10 degrees throughout the day with sunny spells and overcast some of the time.

I was fishing with two rods both on fixed lead setups fishing slack lines to keep everything pinned down to the bottom. I was fishing swim 4 also known as the bank, where there was an pump going into the water for the first 2 hours. I was fishing margins throughout the day so i could get my presentation spot on with perfect spreads of bait. The bait i opted for was double fake corn one sinking one floating . The sinking was standard yellow and the pop up was a white chocolate toffee flavoured piece of corn. This provided a good presentation with the hook just cranked off the silt.

Was fishing the margins left and right of me about 10 metres either way one in reeds and one just off the silt. the hookbaits where over a bed of ten pellet, rock salt, corn and halibut additives. my hookbaits where glugged in strawberry and crab and slowly lowered into there spots and walked back to the pod nice and slowly.

The first fish fell victim to my meathods at 9:00 am being a lovely common that took a screaming run and kited right away from the reeds and was played easy enough into the net. adrenaline rush kicks in first fish of the session and campaign. A common and probably one of the stock fish from a few years back. there seems to be a few of these but nether the less there still welcome.

Nothing else happened for another hour an a half then i got caught out by this smaller stocked mirror. which surprisingly gave up quite a great scrap. didn't look like it had been caught before probably last years stock thats done well to keep out of the way. nice take smooth and simple. This fish had some real shoulders coming through on it and was definitely not the original strain of carp from the complex.

Hour an hour later and another fish of the right hand rod this time a lovely fish and the biggest of the session. nice long chunk of common carp muscle, really wide fish that just would not give up without a good fight. It came around though after nearly loosing it to some snags just right of my swim. a few fish from the session caused some problems with this and they gave it no hesitation to dive towards them.

after the disturbance this fish caused around my swim it went dead for about 3 hours absolutely nothing showing in the area and all the fish had moved off to the other end of the lake to seek some deeper water. so after about 3 hours i did some pre baiting of a spot a few metres closer on the margin spot and bated and tried it there. Instant results within sitting back down to start some dinner the rod screams off and the fish takes huge amounts of line. took a while to gain some back on this fish but finally landed it and had it unhooked and back in in a couple on minutes.

A few more fish followed after this to the left hand rod and i seemed to have got the baiting speed spot on with the fish. already i was seeing such more coming from this session compared to my last. going from blanking to this was sure to help my confidence with the setup and put me back in the game to catch up with the 20lb campaign.

It was after a long wait that I fell to the most deserved fish of the session and one of the originals from the lake. This fish is not caught often last time it came out was 2 years ago in the winter. I had seen this fish working its way around my swim for hours before it fell victim to my rig and all the time it was there i was just sat biting my nails hopeing it would take the bait.

Only one more fish came after this and it was just as i was beginning to do my last tidy up before packing up and heading home. So overall it was a great session and really put me in the mood for the 20 campaign. I will definitely be back for another session at longlake in 2 - 3 weeks hopefully we can make one of those big originals. there is one named fish that i wouldn't mind getting my hands on. well thanks for reading hope your having great sessions too.
