The Brook Merton Bank Rd
Has anyone fished the brook around the merton bank rd area ? It runs from near where St helens ford used to be, through the woods through to haresfinch where it bust its banks last week then on towards merton bank rd. It looks fishy in places especially by the old lock pool.

I live close by and take regular walks down the footpath there. It is very shallow, stilted up a lot, probably why it bursts its banks a lot. Full of sticklebacks but not seen anything else in there. It is very weedy at the bottom of the locks and probably does hold some fish which have come down the locks. I have never seen anyone fish it as well, apart from the kingfishers. I walk up and down by the bergies if this is were you mean. I have fished at the top of the locks by the college though. That is a fun session and I think it is free to fish up there.

yes mate thats exactly where I mean. THere is defo fish in the lock pool. I have also seen roach spawning in the sankey brook behind the sewage works in blackbrook. I was told there was chub in there but i wouldn't be certain.

Re: The Brook Merton Bank Rd
I grew up around there and there is the odd fish in there. Above the locks used to be stuffed with fish years ago. Sadly the local idiots trashed the lock gates and the fish entered the stretch your talking about. The best chance you have of catching anything is right at the far end just before it drops down under blackbrook road. This area definately used to hold fish.
There used to be a few pegs on the other side of blacbrook road, just behind the princess royal pub at the bottom of the steep bank. I suspect these are gone now but there was a lot of roach and chub there with some skimmers and perch.
If you follow the stretch down behind the sewage works there are definitely all kinds down there. It had been stocked by the ea with trout, barbel and chub etc a number of years ago. They are in there as I've seen them. Barbel have been caught upto 4lb quite recently alone with chublets etc.
Take a chance and have a go, your highly unlikely to catch next to the bergies but you will catch further downstream. The exception being at the bottom of the locks where it starts to widen. You get over six ft of water and I've had big perch, skimmers, crucians and small tench from there.
Good luck and keep us posted if you try it.
