ST HELENS CANAL NEW YEARS EVE MATCH 31,12,O8

Post by waggler woman on Thu Jan 01, 2009 6:58 am

Good turnout for the New Years Eve match, 28 anglers sat in the freezing cold and when I say freezing cold I mean freezing, elastics frozen in the top two’s, pole joints stuck, stiff nets, frozen casters, numb fingers and toes, but it did not put them off and the canal produced some nice weights for this time of year.

Here are the results pics, and a video

1st peg 26 Ste Rimmer 37lb 7oz
2nd peg 24 Gary Wally 30lb 11oz
3rd peg 28 Dave Rigby 21lb 7oz
4th peg 37 Lee Addy 21lb 1oz
5th peg 10 Jonathan Fairhurst 18lb 13oz
6th peg 19 Danny Sixsmith 13lb 12oz
7th peg 23 Ste Hammy 10lb 6oz
8th peg39 Charlie Horn 10lb 1oz

20 dnw.

Well done ste rimmer, some good weights on such a cold day.

Its funny how some of the anglers who fished never bother at other times of the year, or maybe its just me.

well if you have a permit and you book on you are entitled to fish dave, there will allways be new faces on the canal wether they be local or further afeild, it would be nice if it was the same people week in week out but thats how it is and it all makes match fishing what it is! and thats a challange and a laugh Smile i myself enjoy them and lets face it i dont go to catch fish Laughing Laughing Laughing dont think you will see santa on there for a bit though Laughing you just wait to see how many turn out for the last match when all moneys left in the pot get paid out. i wonder if they will pay out for most consistent effort Laughing even if they did frank would beat me hands down Laughing lol!

all the best.

if you mean a speciel match maybe but i dont know how it would be done, apart from that once the festive period is over it will be the same face every match apart from the addys who generly come when there prefered venues are frozen over. dont worry once i learn how to fish they wont have a chance lol Laughing Laughing

I think my point was that they never bother any other time of year, maybe they have work commitments etc, but you never see them pleasuring or walking down each week, looking after the place etc, I agree that if you pay for a permit you are entitled to fish, but i think if they shown their face a little more often it may stop the regulars from missing matches around the xmas period

Dislike is a understatement Baz it takes alot for me to dislike somebody being a scoucer living in st helens for 40yrs but when Harry Fryer gave him that nick name on the monday night matches on the Dam he could not have chose a better name.

i know he is disabled and he cannot lie straight in bed but as you and others know he carnt even tell you his estimated weight straight for a guy who has fished for so long you would think he would know what lb's he had................. dont get me started Viv will end up banning me form here
