The Mere

Does anyone know how Eccleston Mere is fishing as im on about going on there soon & what method ( pole or tip rod ) & baits to use, not fished it for at least 12 to 15 years & do i fish off the grass bank or the wall ?

i went few weeks ago it's no where near the water it used to be 12 years ago.. try mill dam or if you want to go to eccy mere stay away from grass bank....

no we had a lovely days fishing in the sun on the grass bank side .... but not a single bite .lol .. i can remember as a kid in comps on eccy mere the grass bank was brill loads of bream and roach.....

but nothing

the mere is fishing well for bream, need to chuck 40 - 50 yards with a feeder of the wall and plenty roach showing on the pole to maggot and caster.

any tips for mill dam and carriage drive

yeah rodders dont go lol mill is fishing terrible at the min best advice is dont go untill after 4 when they are more likely to feed and get a peg around the pipes or the deeper pegs 16-15 and you should get a few! as for carriage the carp are not realy on the feed and you are best fishing for roach n perch with casters and with a bit of look a carp or 2 will come along, anywhere on the wall peg12 down to 4 should be fine my favourite is 5 fishing 8-11metres and sandys is fishing well so there is allways there if all else fails

Hi marcus i was going to post a question on here later about mill dam but dont need to now you say roach are showing on the mere at what distance on the pole would you say as im on about going there on friday, plus what baits work well on sandy bottoms & is luncheon meat worth a shot on there, which pegs would be ideal for me to take my 9 year old son on sandy bottoms as will be taking him there soon

around 11 metres should be right on the mere, i wouldnt bother with meat mate just fish micros and expanders and you should catch carp skimmers and roach , generally corners produce best on sandy's with a warm wind blowing but you should catch anywhere but if you want peace and quiet get down to pegs 16- 17, 18s a cracker but is very shallow at the best of times and like most places at the minute sandy's is low on water so its probably not fishable, let us know how you get on!

since wen as there been pike in mill dam ive neva even herd of dem bein caught in there or seen 1 news to me

i won a match a some years ago as a under 18 with a 6lb1oz pike caught near the pipes at mill dam.... no bite all day then all hell brakes out when i foul hooked the pike ....

lol wouldnt happen today though you cant weigh em in

i do quite a bit ov pike fishing in the winter over mere and bin a pilks member since i wer a nipper and dats the first time ive herd ov pike in there

hi mate i know i was shocked was only 14yrs old at time and know 35 so it was a while ago but got the photo somewhere. best fight i've ever had .. on pole with 11'oz bottom but as i said it was foul hooked so it was going no where..... only just got it in intime for end of play....

mite have to give it ago in the winter to see if there still in there

There have always been the odd pike in Mill Dam it makes a water healthy to have predioptr fish the worst thing that a club / angler can do is remove the larger ones as they keep the smaller population in check

i agree with you there mate and to many clubs these days want to remove them from there waters karl i am sure if you are dead baiting on mill you will get the odd specimen eel. i have one out just under 4lb
