catfish in the canal

Rumours have it that a catfish was caught by a carper on the match stretch a week or so ago which weighed in at 36lb yep i know what your thinking! dont be so f*c*ing stupid but i think its possible the canal is well known ffor its strange critters and now and again you do hook something that just wont come up after fighting it for half an hour i just hope i get it on one of those canal matches! any excuse to do some fish wrestling

Other anglers would of had it by now, fish that size dont just appear overnight. I dont doubt there is the odd catfish in there but I bet it isnt even close to 36lb.

well i know where your coming from but fish like that probably dont come out very often , they will get hooked but not landed, like when lee addy had something on for half an hour and couldn't get it off the bottom and the inevitable happened, anyway my source for the info is dave allsop and he says it came out at that weight out of the match stretch

do carpers not have mobile phones cos a photo would have been a must to put the doubters to rest. plenty mobile phone photos were taken of mike elders cat from peg 10 which was 12lb ish.

yep thats a point and most carpers love taking fish pics i will see if i can get hard evidence of this unbelievable capture.

I'm still doubtful, a couple of years ago a carp come out 30 odd lb, nobody has ever seen that one, well i've not. I've fished that stretch more than most over the last 15 years.

ah well i have seen a pic of a 31 common which came out a few months ago so just goes to show you never know whats in a water

31lb common, pictures can be very deceptive. Wasit weighed, was the scales correct, as we know sometimes the scales are wrong, or the person weighing with them lol!

st helens canal, last catfish caught in a match was by mike elder on peg 10. there is photographic evidence on this site somewhere. It was about 12lb 2 years ago.
